Growing your own tomatoes means you can concentrate on taste, not like Supermarkets who choose tomatoes for travelling and shelf life.
Main types of tomatoes home grown are:
- Indeterminate or Cordon Tomatoes
- Bush or Determinate Tomatoes
- Hanging Basket or Dwarf Bush Tomatoes
Indeterminate are usualy tied to a cane or string with side shoots removed so that energy goes into the fruit and not the foliage and tend to be the most popular. Bush don't need side shoots removing but do need more room and so are not generally suitable for pots. Hanging Basket or Dwarf Bush are bred to grow in containers and usually produce cherry tomatoes.
